Your future as a professional helicopter pilot
The CPL/H modular training at RotorSky aims to train you to become a competent and safe professional pilot. You will acquire comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to operate helicopters professionally and responsibly. Upon successful completion, you will be ideally prepared for a wide range of tasks, whether in passenger transport, cargo transport, rescue services, or agricultural aviation.


Requirements / Prior knowledge
Entry requirements
In order to be officially admitted to the training to become a professional helicopter pilot, the following criteria must be met:
The minimum age for a first solo flight is 16 years.
The minimum age for obtaining a pilot's license is 18 years.
Positive medical fitness examination Class 1
Valid Austrian PPL/H with valid Type Rating or valid PPL/H of an ICAO member state
Proof of at least 155 total flight hours on helicopters
a. of which 50 flight hours as pilot in command
b. of the 155 total flight hours, at least 10 flight hours must have been flown cross-country.Proof of basic knowledge in mathematics, physics and English (will be checked by the flight school (ATO))
Requirements after completion of the training or for the issuance of the certificate:
185 flight hours total
Radio operator certificate (EFZ or AFZ)
English language proficiency check – at least level 4 out of 6
Completed night vision flight training (min. 5 hours)
Cross-country flight and a flight with a minimum distance of at least 185 kilometers where two external airfields must be visited.
Prior knowledge
For individuals with a PPL/A pilot's license, the required coursework is reduced. The following will be credited:
20 flight hours over flat terrain
No credit given for existing theoretical training
For individuals holding a CPL/A or ATPL/A pilot's license, the required training is reduced. The following will be credited:

In a personal consultation, we will gladly discuss your individual prior knowledge and inform you about the extent of credit transfer. The creditable elements of your PPL/A, CPL/A, or ATPL/A training will be deducted from the price upon confirmation.
Theoretical training
The theory block consists of at least 250 hours.
The course consists of a combination of classroom instruction (110 hours) and web-based training (140 hours). The curriculum includes 13 theoretical subjects, which must be completed within a maximum of 18 months.

practical training
The practical part is divided into two phases:
Visual flight training (minimum 20 hours)
Basic instrument flight training (minimum 10 hours)
Total flight hours: at least 30 hours
The total of 30 flight hours are completed with a qualified flight instructor. Of these, 10 hours must be flown exclusively under instrument flight rules (IFR). The 20 hours of visual flight instruction are conducted with a flight instructor each day.
Night vision flight training is required for the CPL/H license. This training can also be completed at RotorSky.
Night vision flight training includes at least 5 hours of flying at night. This consists of at least 3 hours of instruction with a flight instructor, 5 circuits solo at night, and a cross-country flight lasting at least 1 hour.
